There were plenty of fabulous homes in the debut edition of CULTURED‘s interiors magazine, CULTURED at Home. But none were quite as fantastical as opera singer Anthony Roth Costanzo‘s. As the sun set on Monday evening, guests gathered at the Chelsea abode for a toast to the hefty new publication. Guest Editor Alexandra Cunningham Cameron, Editor-in-Chief Sarah Harrelson, and Creative Director Erin Knutson joined Costanzo in welcoming contributors, artists, designers, and other supporters into the space for snacks, cocktails, and an opportunity to explore the historic apartment IRL.
The Locale: Costanzo’s modernist apartment is the former home and office of architect David Webster, a “rare surviving example of High-Tech design, an off-the-shelf, ad-hoc, and industrial approach to space-making,” Cunningham-Cameron shares in the issue.
The Crowd: Those peeking in cabinets and around corners included artists Cassie Griffin and Francesca DiMattio, writer and curator Jarrett Earnest, fashion designers Jackson Wiederhoeft and Tanner Richie, The Cutting Room Floor host Recho Omondi, Performance Space’s Pati Hertling, the Met Opera’s Marsha Drummond, creative director Akari Endo-Gaut, actors Conrad Ricamora and Hannah Solow, and writers Rob Franklin, Camille Okhio, and Adam Eli.
Food and Drink: A sumptuous grazing table by Chris Kronner, which included a selection of toasts, chopped greens, radishes, radicchio, dried figs, prosciutto, and artful salads in an array of silver bowls.
Memorable Moment: A grand ice sculpture—with a fanned-out issue of CULTURED at Home suspended within—served as the unspoken guest of honor in the living room’s center. Don’t ask us how we got the copy out of there after.
Parting Gift: Guests stepped out into the brisk Chelsea air with a copy of CULTURED at Home and the first run of the magazine’s new hats emblazoned with “Critic”—because, aren’t we all?
