Conductor Art Fair marked its debut last night at Powerhouse Arts in Gowanus, with a landmark VIP preview night, one day ahead of the fair’s public run from April 30–May 3. Led by Powerhous Arts President Eric Shiner and Fair Director Adriana Farietta, the evening drew over 800 guests who were greeted by installations from Juan Jose Barboza-Gubo, House of Silence by Vuslat, and Sana Frini before embarking on a self-guided tour through 28 gallery exhibitors and 20 additional special projects. The night’s energy reached its height with a performance by Grammy-nominated artist Lido Pimienta, with an acapella flourish and a profound stillness within the room.
The Locale: At Powerhouse Arts’s sprawling arts fabrication and programmatic hub, the former Brooklyn Rapid Transit Power Station turned cultural institution hummed with an especially creative electricity after dark, its vast ceilings and packed booths playing host to the city’s art scene all evening long.
The Crowd: Guests and supporters in attendance included curator Adam Shore; artists Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya, Anissa Touati, Annabel Daou, Hiba Schahbaz, Lee Quiñones, Raul De Lara, Salman Toor, and Sophia Wallace; gallerists Cristina Grajales, Johannes Vogt, Leon Tovar, and Elizabeth Dee; the ADAA’s Kinsey Robb; advisor Wendy Cromwell; and collectors Andy Gao, Danny Baez, Pamela Auchincloss, Rodrigo Padilla, and Terry Zucker.
Entertainment: Pimienta surprised and enraptured guests when she performed a four-song acapella set in the midst of the evening’s proceedings. Her large-scale tapestry installation is featured in the fair’s Special Projects lineup throughout its four-day run, and her works will also be available through PHA’s Store—with proceeds directly supporting her school and residency program with the Wayuu Indigenous community in La Guajira, Colombia.
Parting Gift: The CULT100 issue, hot off the presses, dotted tables and was slipped into bags throughout the evening—a supportive wink from CULTURED on the occasion of Conductor’s launch.
