Pretty Dirty: The Life and Times of Marilyn Minter, Daniel Silverstein, Debi Wisch
Screening of Pretty Dirty: The Life and Times of Marilyn Minter. All photography by Daniel Silverstein and courtesy of Debi Wisch.

On Saturday, the art world decamped out East for a special screening of the new Marilyn Minter documentary, Marilyn Minter:Pretty/Dirty, which featured Minter’s expansive story as told by the likes of artist Jeff Koons, actor Jane Fonda, and activist Monica Lewinsky.

The screening was followed by a warm, invite-only dinner at the nearby home of co-producer Debi Wisch. The film’s creative team, including contributing producer and CULTURED‘s Editor-in-Chief Sarah Harrelson, as well as peers of Minter gathered to toast to the artist’s unapologetic vision—which spans from the mirrored, emotional grit of her photography to a lifetime of sharp feminist commentary.

The Scene: A screening and intimate post-show fête honoring Minter, whose unflinching look at beauty and desire has challenged the contemporary art world for decades. The film, which charts Minter’s life “from addict to icon” offered no shortage of dinner-table conversation once the group was seated at the waterfront home of producer and collector Debi Wisch in East Hampton.

The Crowd: A tightly curated mix of supporters including Harrelson; artists Cindy Sherman, Mary Heilmann, Robert Longo, Jenna Gribbon, and Steve Miller; gallerist Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn; museum directors Anne Pasternak and Lisa Phillips; collector George Wells; advisor Jessica Chestman; producers Amanda Benchley and Regina K. Scully; musician Mackenzie Scott; and writers Jennifer Ash Rudick and Molly Jong-Fast.

Cause for FOMO: A rare, up-close moment with Minter herself—on-site, in conversation, and unfiltered—reflecting on decades of provocation, pleasure, and the power of image among the very peers who helped shape her story.

Parting Gift: Copies of CULTURED‘s latest issue and Caddis glasses, with which to better read the magazine’s fine print, traveled with guests back to their own East End abodes.

The film will be available to view in-person at the International Film Center in New York on Nov. 20, and to stream from Nov. 21-30—book tickets here.
