On a crisp Uptown evening, CULTURED, Design Within Reach (DWR), and Flos brought guests together for a salon-style discussion centered on the evolving role of lighting in modern interiors. Against the backdrop of DWR’s curated showroom, guests saw firsthand how light can shape spaces, mood, and the experience of design.

The Scene: Design enthusiasts gathered to view the brand-new iteration of the Flos Bellhop Lamp Collection—a warm, modernist collectible—and take in a thoughtful dialogue on lighting’s integral role in art-filled spaces, sparking conversations on creative use-cases and innovation that glows. An exhibition of the lamps in various colorways, and perched on thoughtfully-designed pedestals in an array of materials, provided a tangible extension of the night’s discussion.

The Locale: DWR’s Third Avenue showroom—a communal space where sleek industrial details meet curated displays of lighting, design objects, and furniture.

The Crowd: Panelists included Barber Osgerby design studio co-founder Jay Osgerby, interior designer Clive Lonstein, and DWR Senior Director of Merchandising Lizzy Sullivan, moderated by CULTURED Editor-in-Chief Sarah Harrelson, all considering the ways a single fixture can transform an interior world. Attendees spanned New York’s design, collector, and media communities, including designers Sarah Solis and Gray Davis, as well as photographer Frank Frances.

Food & Drink: Lit-from-within lemon bars arrived on silver trays, along with a selection of easy fare and artful arrays of radishes and carrots. Wine and cocktails made the rounds, offering the gathered a moment to toast to the evening’s thought-provoking programming.

Parting Gift: The newly-launched CULTURED at Home magazine was tucked under arms as guests ventured home, a rich extension of the design credo they encountered in the showroom throughout the evening.
