At 31, Sophia Cohen has already proven her mettle as one of the art world’s sharpest connectors. The former Gagosian associate director and founder of Siren, a curatorial and advisory consultancy, is bringing that expertise to CULTURED in her new role as the magazine’s arts editor-at-large. With her monthly column “In the Know,” an insider’s guide to the industry’s key players and events, Cohen has already invited our readers into candid conversations with the likes of Tolga AlbayrakRussell ToveyEmma McIntyre, and Sarah Miska.

This exciting launch was cause enough for celebration, and Frieze’s descent on New York this week just the right the occasion. So last night CULTURED Founder and Editor-in-Chief Sarah Harrelson gathered friends and collaborators, including fashion designer Kim Shui, writer Nate Freeman, art advisors Ralph DeLuca and Sandy Heller, artist Rogan Gregory, CULTURED Co-Chief Art Critic Johanna Fateman, collector Lucas Hoffmann, David Zwirner senior director Lucas Zwirner, and Tanner Fletcher‘s Tanner Richie to celebrate at the Twenty Two—a London-born hotel and private members’ club that recently opened an outpost steps away from Union Square—for an evening that blurred the line between party and salon.

Built by Margaret Louisa Vanderbilt Shephard in 1891 as a haven for independent women, the Twenty Two townhouse has since been reimagined with vintage Americana touches and a distinctly modern glow. French 75s and margaritas flowed as artists, curators, gallerists, and club members moved through the moody, mahogany-trimmed interiors of the landmarked space. Suffice to say, when the crowd finally trickled out into the Manhattan night, it was with a plentiful supply of conversation topics for the next art-world cocktail hour.
