On May 14, the Museum of Arts and Design hosted a “Glitter Grunge Disco”-themed Young Patrons Gala in New York. The evening, presented by Coach and honoring artist Derrick Adams, was chaired by MAD Trustee Mike De Paola with Andi Potamkin Blackmore along with Co-Chairs Bettina Prentice, Sarah Arison and Meg Sharpe. In attendance were figures and influencers in the art and fashion worlds, such as Zoe Buckman, TK and Cipriana Quann, Mickalene Thomas and Racquel Chevremont, Jose Parla, Casey Fremont and MAD Chief Curator Shannon R. Stratton. Inspired by the grit and glitz of late-70s downtown New York City, glitter reigned supreme; the traditional step-and-repeat was replaced with a custom glittered motorcycle and installation of broken glass by Sivan Dayan. Artworks on view included Adams’s large-scale work Modern in Every Detail and works by Bob Gruen, Rebecca Dayan, Lindsey Adelman and Gerard & Kelly for Paddle8’s silent auction benefitting the museum.

Adams said of the evening, “Being honored at the MAD Young Patrons Ball amongst so many art supporters, family and friends, I felt a real glow of love in the air.”
