On May 4, Cultured and Hostler Burrows hosted the opening of “Observed: The Great American Landscape in Transition” by Victoria Sambunaris at the gallery’s new Greenwich Village space. Sambunaris’ photography, which makes subtle, yet complicated statements about some of the nation’s most volatile contemporary issues, was on view in an exhibition curated by Cultured Contributing Editor Michael Reynolds. Her photographs of the border barrier along the Sonora Desert or of a strip mining operation in the Eastern Pennsylvania’s Coal Region breath new life into the overcrowded field of landscape photography. The exhibit runs through June 30.
