A star was born last night.
Across the Seine from the Grand Palais, where Art Basel Paris had just closed its First Choice VIP day, and steps away from the Hôtel des Maisons, where Design Miami was in full swing, a cross-section of fashion, art, and design insiders gathered at the residence of collector and private art dealer Jim Hedges to celebrate the launch of CULTURED at Home, the magazine’s inaugural design issue.
As rain began to fall over the city, guests descended upon the storied home, once owned by Hubert de Givenchy, where they flipped through fresh copies of the magazine. Guest-edited by Alexandra Cunningham Cameron, CULTURED at Home reimagines the traditional shelter publication. The visually striking tome is part resource—mapping landscapes of contemporary design culture—and part reverie—a collection of intimate looks into the homes of critics, novelists, filmmakers, and designers.
Waiters poured crystal flutes of Perrier-Jouët and circulated canapés as guests—including Hermès’s Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski, artist Mickalene Thomas, equestrian Karen Polle, creative director Cosima Ungaro, curator and CULTURED at Home contributing editor Ruba Katrib, architecture writer and CULTURED at Home books editor Carson Chan, novelist Christopher Bollen, curator Kyle DeWoody, collectors Michelle and Jason Rubell, and Pinault Collection Head of Cultural Programs Cyrus Goberville—traded art-week gossip amid Hedges’s striking personal collection, which includes works by Jack Pierson and Andy Warhol.
