New York’s gala circuit returned to the Upper East Side last week, as a particularly polished crowd swept through the doors of the Frick Collection for one night. Guests gathered (in an array of sweeping gowns and creative variations on black-tie) to celebrate the annual Young Fellows Ball, the Frick’s keystone spring benefit.

The Scene: Inside the warmly-lit galleries of the Frick, tumbles of flower arrangements and tulle filled the building with stately poise. Guests wandered between the vast rooms of the mansion—packed with masterworks, fine porcelain, Fragonard panels, and Gilded Age furnishings.

The Crowd: Between long-time supporters and a new generation of cultural movers and shakers, the Young Fellows Ball was packed with guests including benefit Chairs Natalie Bloomingdale, Ivy Getty, Alexander Hankin, Casey Kohlberg, Laurence Milstein, and Lilah Ramzi; Frick leadership Axel Rüger and Aimee Ng; comedian Marcello Hernández; political candidate Jack Schlossberg; models Ava Dash and Emira D’Spain; designers Cynthia Rowley and Bach Mai; and stylist Becky Malinsky.

The Occasion: The annual Young Fellows Ball, with the theme “Travel Through Time,” invited guests to reflect on the institution’s storied place in New York’s cultural landscape. It also highlighted the museum’s latest exhibition, “Gainsborough: The Fashion of Portraiture,” which offers a special lens on the sartorial flourishes present in English artist Thomas Gainsborough’s work.

Cause for FOMO: Throughout the evening, a Juilliard string quartet serenaded guests in the museum’s Stephen A. Schwarzman Auditorium, while DJs carried the festivities late into the evening with clipped bass.
