Last night CULTURED hosted a fire-lit dinner at Sunset Tower to toast Tessa Thompson’s Golden Globe nomination and the beginning of a jam-packed weekend.

The 86th annual Golden Globes will commence Sunday afternoon at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, but in the meantime, all corners of the film world are converging on Los Angeles for a weekend of revelry. While eager fans and paparazzi gathered in the driveway of the iconic Sunset Tower hotel, hoping for a glimpse of this year’s nominees filtering in and out of their rooms, an intimate group of actors, filmmakers, musicians, and industry veterans gathered for a festive dinner hosted by CAA Managing Directors Joel Lubin and Maha Dakhil, and Sarah Harrelson. The evening—a cocktail followed by a seated dinner adorned with winter florals—honored Thompson’s Best Actress nomination for her role in Hedda at this year’s awards.

“We all know how much goes into a moment like this—awards are just a tiny symptom of a bigger thing that’s happening,” Lubin told Thompson in his dinner remarks. “It’s important to have these moments of pause to remember that.” The evening was certainly a respite from the chaos—guests including actor-filmmaker Rebecca Hall, directors Ava DuVernay, and Malcolm Washington, musician Szela, MGM president and Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman, actress-comedian Janelle James, comedian Sherry Cola, and newly minted TV producer Monica Lewinsky settled in for meandering conversations that lasted long after the final course was cleared.
