Whisky collectors, design enthusiasts, and art-world insiders gathered on Wednesday for a fête to mark the exhibition opening of “Imaginarium: The Fantastical World of Compass Box and Stranger & Stranger,” as well as the unveiling of Confluence, Compass Box’s one-of-one blend with an artistic twist. The product was developed with auction house Bonhams as part of a benefit sale to support the Wolfsonian-FIU museum and research center.
The Locale: The Wolfsonian hosted the festivities, welcoming guests into a scene resplendent in the themes and tokens of Compass Box—from artistic renderings of the whisky maker’s labels, to passed trays of bearing selections of Compass Box’s array of Scotch whiskies.
The Crowd: Key attendees included dealer Avalon Ashley Bellos, Compass Box Creative Director of Whiskymaking Angela D’Orazio, Stranger and Stranger Design Director Guy Pratt, photographers Donna-Marie and Maruska Mason, artist Ivan Roque, and tastemakers Lilli Espinosa Bianca, and Nijel B Murray.
The Entertainment: Conceived as a modern cabinet of curiosities, Imaginarium transforms the world of whisky into a realm of art, symbolism, and imagination. The immersive showcase revealed the stories behind Compass Box and Stranger & Stranger’s most iconic creations, from The Entertainer to Brûlée Royale, and the decades of curiosity in between—each world a testament to the marriage of whisky and creativity.
Memorable Moment: Compass Box and Bonhams also toasted to the “Alchemy of Spirits” initiative, an online auction running from through Dec. 10, featuring Confluence. “We’re delighted to collaborate with Compass Box on such an exceptional showcase of spirits,” shared Sean Purce, Bonhams’s Senior Specialist in Fine Wines/Rare Spirits.
