On June 8, The Glass hosted its annual Summer Party to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the iconic Phillip Johnson house. The festivities began with a farm-to-table picnic by South End on the 49 acres of greenery surrounding the property. Halfway into the birthday bash, French high wire artist Phillipe Petit activated the site for for an aerial walk, astonishing attendees of all ages. Guests, including artists Katie Stout, Martin Kline, Mickalene Thomas and Carrie Mae Weems, sipped rosé from Whispering Angel while the Harlem-based drumline and danceline crew, The Marching Cobras performed. All great things come to an end and this year’s Summer Party was no exception—raising over $550,000 for preservation initiatives at the Glass House. The Summer Party benefit auction, powered by Paddle8, provides the opportunity for collecting art from a curated selection of artists including Cindy Sherman, Josef Albers, Alex Katz and Richard Prince.
