Artist Meriem Bennani is a product of her generation. A young artist with a talent for manipulating digital media, Bennani twists contemporary tropes on their head through her immersive video installations. Informed by her childhood in Morocco, Bennani often shoots there, incorporating her friends and family into her videos. Always humorous, Bennani’s work touches upon the tensions that exist in a developing world. A star on the rise, Bennani recently unveiled “FLY,” her first institutional solo show at MoMA PS1. On view until August, the show reveals a new side of Bennani. To get a more personal look into her life, we asked the artist to answer our questions with images.
