Imagine a coastal enclave where Modernism meet untamed dunes, where pine forests give way to cool waves. That’s the promise of JNĉQuoi’s forthcoming destination in Comporta, Portugal—toasted over a dinner last Thursday at Coco’s private club. Spread across 164 hectares and only an hour outside Lisbon, the Vincent Van Duysen-designed campus is a beach club, residential community, and hotel all-in-one. Now, founders Paula Amorim and Miguel Guedes de Sousa are spreading the news.
The Scene: At the mahogany-toned Coco’s high above Manhattan, Amorim and Guedes de Sousa welcomed a well-heeled crowd to fête the Comporta outpost—a sophisticated retreat in a coastal enclave often dubbed “the Hamptons of Portugal.”
The Crowd: Guests in attendance included CULTURED Editor-in-Chief Sarah Harrelson; collectors Chad Leat, Ida Liu, Alexandra Stanton, Jason and Michelle Rubell, and Seth Stolbun; gallerist Ellie Rines; art advisor Rob Teeters; and interior designer Sarah Ivory.
The Entertainment: A highlight of the evening? The chance to hear Portuguese soprano Leonor Vasconcelos perform three iconic Fados in an emotional Lisbon-meets-New York moment.
Parting Gift: Each attendee departed with the latest issue of CULTURED, a fitting companion for the flight to the Portuguese hotspot.
Cause for FOMO: Hearing from the founders themselves about what went into designing the escape with Van Duysen, who was given creative control over everything from the structures themselves to the candle holders that inhabit them.
