The world has gone digital, and this week so did an art gallery in the middle of Chelsea. CULTURED partnered with Samsung to host a pop-up featuring work by Adam Pendleton, Dominique Fung, Oscar yi Hou, and more from the “CULTURED Collection” displayed in the highest of resolutions.
The Occasion: The “CULTURED Collection” is a new series of work from contemporary artists available on the Samsung Art Store for owners of Samsung’s The Frame and QLED TVs, which transform into a hanging artwork while in art mode. The partnership marks a significant milestone in Samsung’s contemporary program, and follows collaborations with the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and Art Basel, to name a few. The first chapter of the collection sees pieces from Andrea Marie Breiling, Chris Martin, Emma Webster, and a litany of other prominent names. “This partnership has been a year in the making,” CULTURED Editor-in-Chief Sarah Harrelson told visitors to the pop-up gallery. “It’s amazing to see how Samsung shares our own mission to support artists.”

The Setting: To celebrate the launch, CULTURED and Samsung hosted a dinner in the Chelsea gallery this Wednesday for a cross-section of art and tech insiders. Florals lined a stretch table surrounded by hanging domestic landscapes, abstract compositions, and portraiture, all displayed on Samsung’s latest matte, 65-inch TVs held in an elegant black frame. “Samsung is privileged to work with some of the most renowned leaders and brands in media, technology and the arts,” said Maya Harris, VP & Head of Strategic Partnerships for Samsung’s TV & Mobile Services. “Through our partnership with CULTURED, we were pleased to bring together many of our esteemed Samsung partners for this special event series as well as extend the Samsung Art Store Gallery experience to the public.”

The Crowd: At the dinner table, one could spot everyone from Art Basel CEO Noah Horowitz to NBC’s Matt Schnaars, as well as artist Dominique Fung, DVF CEO Graziano de Boni, Meta VP Ash Jhaveri, the Whitney’s Karaugh Brown, Harrelson, and Samsung’s Sang Kim, Won-Jin Lee, Maya Harris, Michael Scott, and Avner Ronen.
Thursday, the gallery opened to the public and that night played host to a cocktail with guests including artists Theresa Chromati and Maayan Zilberman, social justice advocate Mustafa Ali-Smith, interior designer Estelle Bailey-Babenzien, and collector Paul Leong joining CULTURED in celebrating with margaritas and popcorn in hand.
Cause for FOMO: Getting the inside scoop on which CEOs have opted for a Frame TV in their homes, and which artists they’ve been featuring in their living rooms.
