All photography by Larry Fink.
All photography by Larry Fink.

The first time I met Larry Fink was at VR World. We were shooting the space for Orit Gat‘s essay on this new kind of experiential entertainment and its relationship to the museum. Moving together through the glazed over crowds, I observed in real time the exacting curiosity and empathy I had seen in Fink’s idiosyncratic black and white photographs of parties and protests through the decades. It’s all true. He’s a genius of the in-between capturing his subjects in the glorious arch of an action not yet fulfilled.

I learned that day navigating a sea of youth that in addition to his skills as an eye in the sky, Fink is also a prolific poet and harmonica savant–two lyrical occupations that tease themselves out across his person and his work. Here, Fink gives us a glimpse into his narrative thought-process (and upstate garden).
