What better way to prepare for a jam-packed art-fair week than to be surrounded by art so energetic that just looking at it feels like drinking a shot of espresso?

The dynamic, brightly colored abstract paintings of Jenny Chandler greeted guests at a cocktail celebration kicking off Frieze Los Angeles organized by CULTURED and Jenny Chandler Art. The Alabama-born, LA-based artist’s studio in West Hollywood served as a buzzy meeting place on Saturday ahead of the busy week. The room was adorned with centerpieces from Spacey Florals as guests dined on bites from Nobu and Heavy Handed.

CULTURED Editor-in-Chief Sarah Harrelson joined Chandler in welcoming guests including Art Production Fund's Casey Fremont, jewelry designer Nina Runsdorf, model Chanel Stewart, interior designer Colette Shelton, Being Caroline founder Caroline Baudino, executive producer Sun de Graaf, and stylist Neda Rouhani.

Guests walked through a candle-lit entryway and into Chandler’s bright, high-ceilinged studio on La Cienega Boulevard, which serves as both a workspace and a hub for showings and events. Bouquets of red, pink, and orange flowers on tabletops reflected the energetic hues in the paintings, while cocktails, burgers, and fries fuelled visitors for the week ahead.

Chandler’s expressive acrylic abstractions are currently on view in the group exhibition “California Dreaming” (through March 16), featuring a range of local artists, at Dorado 806 Projects in Santa Monica. Her work will also be presented at the international contemporary art fair (Un)fair Milan (March 1 to 3).

Frieze Los Angeles opens this Thursday and runs through March 3, 2024 at the Santa Monica Airport.
